The story of Webnode begins in Brno, Czech Republic, where Vít Vrba and his development team at Westcom, s.r.o. were creating online applications for large clients. From this work, they saw an opportunity to build a tool for non-technical users. Development on this new platform started in 2006, and Webnode officially launched in January 2008. The core idea was simple: allow anyone to create a website by choosing a template and dragging and dropping elements, a service offered under a freemium model. The company grew quickly, reaching over 200,000 users by the end of its first year and 2 million just two years later. This rapid expansion demonstrated a clear market need for a straightforward website builder. The journey continued with the release of Webnode 2.0 in 2015, which brought a major design modernization and upgraded features. The platform's success was built on its simplicity and robust multilingual customer support, managed from its Brno headquarters. A major turning point for Webnode came in December 2020 when it was acquired by team.blue, a major European digital services provider. This strategic acquisition allowed Webnode to join a larger network, gaining the resources to accelerate its growth while maintaining its startup spirit. Vít Vrba, the founder, expressed pride in joining one of Europe's largest hosting groups. Today, Webnode has helped create over 45 million websites, operating as a key part of the team.blue family.
