In 1933, a Danish company named A/S Kulsyre- og Tørisfabrikken Union was founded, which translates to "Carbon Dioxide and Dry Ice Factory Union Ltd.". The company focused on a niche but critical technology: the capture, recovery, and purification of carbon dioxide. For decades, it honed its expertise, serving major clients in the brewery, soft drink, and industrial gas sectors worldwide. The company's journey involved several ownership changes. In 1972, it was acquired by the British Oxygen Company (BOC). This period was followed by another acquisition in 1984. These transitions helped the company, now known as Union Engineering, to deepen its understanding of customer needs and solidify its position in the CO2 technology market. The most recent significant event occurred in January 2017, when the global industrial company Pentair plc acquired Union Engineering from the Danish private equity fund Capidea. At the time, Union Engineering had around 185 employees. The acquisition was a strategic move for Pentair to expand its own offerings in the industrial gas, food and beverage, and biogas upgrading sectors. This sale marked the next chapter for the Danish firm, integrating its specialized CO2 systems into a larger global portfolio.
