Two Tap developed an online purchasing application that functioned as a universal shopping cart, aiming to streamline the e-commerce checkout process. Founded in 2013 by Romanian computer science graduates Radu Spineanu and Razvan Roman, the company originated from their experiences within Romania's startup community. Spineanu, having previously founded and sold an ad affiliate network in Romania, conceived the idea for Two Tap based on his e-commerce background, identifying a need to allow consumers to purchase products at the point of discovery rather than through redirection.
The company's core offering was a single API for publishers and mobile app developers, designed to enable shoppers to buy products from various retailers directly within an app or from a single website. This technology acted as an intermediary between the user and a retailer's online ordering system, handling the checkout process on behalf of the consumer. The platform stored credit card information on its PCI-compliant servers, allowing users to complete purchases in just two taps after an initial sign-up. The business model targeted the issue of mobile shopping cart abandonment by simplifying the often cumbersome checkout experience on mobile devices. Its service catered to a wide array of retail markets, including fashion, electronics, and home goods.
Two Tap was a participant in the Y Combinator Winter 2014 batch and secured approximately $2.7 million in seed funding from investors such as Khosla Ventures, SV Angel, Initialized Capital, and Green Visor Capital. After its founding, the company grew to a team of around 15 employees. On November 21, 2019, Two Tap was acquired by Honey Science, which was subsequently acquired by PayPal.
