The FeedRoom, Inc. was established in 1999 as a provider of web video software and technology. The company was founded by Jonathan Klein, a former CBS News executive, and Chuck Johnson. Bart Feder, a former news director at WABC-TV, joined in 2000 as Vice President of News and later held roles including President, CEO, and Chairman. Klein, with his background in news and digital media, and Feder, with his extensive experience in journalism and media leadership, aimed to create the next generation of television news.
Operating on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, The FeedRoom provided a comprehensive suite of services for managing and distributing online video content. Its offerings included live streaming, digital asset management, video production, encoding, content management, and detailed performance reporting. The company catered primarily to large enterprises, government agencies, and media organizations. Its client roster included prominent names such as Barnes & Noble, Boeing, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, MetLife, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Revenue was generated by providing these end-to-end video solutions designed for business and marketing communications.
The company's core product was its Enterprise Video Platform (EVP), which, combined with its 'Studio' software, offered an advanced management, reporting, and analytics console. In December 2008, The FeedRoom acquired ClearStory Systems to enhance its digital asset management capabilities, allowing clients to manage a full range of digital marketing assets within a single system. Throughout its history, the company underwent several strategic shifts, eventually focusing on its core strength in the enterprise video market. After raising over $65 million in funding from various investors, The FeedRoom was acquired by KIT Digital, Inc. in October 2009 for approximately $10 million in stock. Following the acquisition, The FeedRoom's brand and operations were integrated into KIT Digital. KIT Digital later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2013 and restructured, emerging as a new entity called Piksel.
