In 2018, after more than a decade in commercial construction, founder Cameron Page hit a breaking point. While working for a major Silicon Valley general contractor, he saw that the process for handling project changes, known as Change Orders, was fundamentally broken—mired in manual, paper-based workflows. This created what he termed the “Change Order Gap,” a disconnect between the financial systems of all the different companies on a job site. This insight was the genesis for a new venture. Initially launched as Extracker in mid-2018, the company, now known as Clearstory, set out to build a business network software where all project stakeholders could collaborate on out-of-contract work. The platform was re-architected in 2019 to fulfill this network vision, allowing general contractors and specialty trade partners to communicate and track changes in real-time. The playbook was validated with a seed round in 2021, followed by a $7 million Series A in 2022 and, most recently, a $16 million Series B in June 2024, bringing its total funding to over $35 million. This capital has fueled rapid scaling and product development, including integrations with major construction software like Procore, Autodesk, and Sage. Today, Clearstory is a key player in construction technology, processing over $850 million in change orders every month for many of North America's largest contractors. By digitizing a critical and costly part of the construction process, Clearstory has moved from a founder's frustration to an industry-standard platform.
