Reebee operates as a digital advertising platform centered around the digitization of retail flyers for the Canadian market. The company was founded in 2012 by Michal Martyniak and Tobiasz Dankiewicz, both of whom had experience delivering physical flyers as children. This early exposure to the flyer distribution business informed their later entrepreneurial venture. After graduating from the University of Waterloo, they launched Reebee, receiving early support from programs like the University of Waterloo's Velocity, Communitech's Rev accelerator, and Y Combinator.
The core of Reebee's business is a mobile and web application that provides consumers with a centralized place to browse weekly flyers from a wide array of Canadian retailers, including major chains like Walmart, Costco, and Home Hardware. The platform is designed to help shoppers plan their purchases, save money, and discover products. Users can search for specific items across all listed flyers to compare prices and create digital shopping lists. The service is free for consumers. Revenue is generated by charging retailers and brands for inclusion on the platform, offering them a targeted channel to reach high-intent shoppers. This model provides retail partners with measurable data on consumer buying signals and engagement, a distinct advantage over traditional print distribution.
In June 2022, Reebee was acquired by Flipp, a larger Toronto-based company in the same digital savings sector. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Following the deal, Reebee continues to operate as a subsidiary, maintaining its brand and employee base of around 80 people from its Kitchener, Ontario headquarters. At the time of the acquisition, Reebee reported having over two million monthly active users in Canada and was described as the country's second-largest digital savings distribution channel. The combination with Flipp was intended to significantly expand the digital reach of both brands across Canada.
