RAV Antivirus

The story of RAV Antivirus is a tale of two different companies from two different eras. The original narrative begins in 1994 in Romania with a company called GeCAD, founded by Radu Georgescu. GeCAD developed RAV Antivirus, a security product that quickly gained global traction, protecting millions of users. The major turning point came in mid-2003. Microsoft, looking to build its own security division, acquired the technology and development team behind RAV Antivirus. This acquisition was a significant event, forming the technological foundation for what would later become Microsoft's own security offerings, like Windows Defender. For nearly a decade, the original RAV story ended there, absorbed into the tech giant. Then, a new chapter began. In 2016, a new company, ReasonLabs, was co-founded by Andrew Newman and Kobi Kalif. Newman, a former lead security program manager at Microsoft who had worked on Windows Defender after his first startup was also acquired, brought deep industry experience. ReasonLabs launched its own suite of security products, including an antivirus solution named RAV Endpoint Protection, adopting the well-known 'RAV' name for its own flagship product.
