PaidEasy

PaidEasy is a mobile payments application designed to streamline the payment process for both consumers and merchants in the hospitality sector. Founded in 2014 by Gregg Jackowitz and based in New York City, the company developed a platform enabling users to view, split, and pay their bills directly from their smartphones without waiting for a server. The application leverages proprietary technology that integrates with a merchant's existing Point of Sale (POS) system without requiring additional hardware.

A key feature of the PaidEasy app was its use of geo-location and iBeacon technology to automatically open a tab when a user entered a participating venue and close it when they left. This functionality was inspired by the seamless payment experience of services like Uber. For merchants, the platform offered benefits such as reduced credit card processing fees, real-time analytics, and the ability to send targeted offers and promotions to customers. The business model focused on creating a comprehensive solution for the 'walk-in' customer market, from discovery and waitlist management to payment and re-engagement.

In August 2015, PaidEasy secured $2 million in a seed funding round from private investor Ivor Ichikowitz to expand its merchant base and further develop its technology. The company grew through strategic acquisitions, including the digital waitlist management system SmartLine and its CharityWait feature in January 2016, and the Brooklyn-based startup Happy. At its peak, the service was operational in over 100 establishments in the New York City area and had plans for expansion into other major North American cities.
