MobileHelp, founded in 2006, operates in the personal emergency response system (PERS) market, providing solutions that enable individuals, particularly seniors, to live independently. The company's inception was driven by founder Elias Janetis's search for a medical alert system for his active grandmother, which revealed a market gap for mobile solutions. Scott Adams, a serial entrepreneur and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) alumnus, co-founded the company and served as its initial CEO, bringing his experience from building Hiway Technologies, a major web hosting company. Adams, who has a background in finance and a knack for problem-solving, helped establish the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship at FAU. Rob Flippo, another co-founder with a background in product development at Motorola and healthcare software, later took over as CEO in 2011.
The company's business model is centered on recurring revenue through subscription-based monitoring services. Its core offerings are mobile personal emergency response systems (M-PERS) that integrate cellular and GPS technology. This allows for real-time monitoring and location tracking both inside and outside the home, a key differentiator from traditional landline-based systems. Products like the Cellular DUO include an in-home base station and a mobile device for protection on the go. Beyond emergency response, MobileHelp provides proactive health management services, including activity tracking and medication reminders, through its MobileHelp Connect platform. The company was the first FDA-registered mobile medical alert system provider.
MobileHelp has undergone significant corporate changes. It was first acquired by private equity firm Abry Partners in 2017. In April 2022, Advocate Aurora Enterprises, the investment arm of the major non-profit health system Advocate Aurora Health, acquired MobileHelp to enhance its services for the aging population and support a shift toward holistic, home-based care. The company continued its operations, including its healthcare division Clear Arch Health, which focuses on remote patient monitoring for healthcare organizations. Most recently, in May 2024, Medical Guardian, another prominent health solutions provider, acquired MobileHelp. This latest acquisition aims to integrate MobileHelp's patented technology into Medical Guardian's services, creating a more cohesive platform for aging adults and the chronically ill.
