Kippt

Kippt was a social bookmarking service that enabled users to save, organize, and share information found on the web. Founded in 2011 and officially launched in 2012 by Finnish entrepreneurs Jori Lallo and Karri Saarinen, the platform originated as a one-day hack project. The founders, who had been active in the Finnish startup scene, took the company through the Summer 2012 batch of the Y Combinator accelerator program in San Francisco.

The service functioned as a tool for both personal and professional use, allowing individuals and teams to collect links, read articles in a distraction-free mode, and organize content into shared lists. Unlike some visual-based bookmarking sites, Kippt focused on the URL and associated content, making the full text of saved pages searchable, which positioned it as a powerful research tool. It also had social features, allowing users to follow each other, comment on shared links, and discover new content through their networks. The business model included a free service and a 'Kippt Pro' paid plan with additional features.

In May 2014, the Kippt team was acquired by the Bitcoin exchange platform Coinbase, which was part of the same Y Combinator class. The acquisition was for the talent of founders Lallo and Saarinen, who joined Coinbase's product team to help improve the usability of Bitcoin services. Following the acquisition, Kippt's premium plans were discontinued, but the company stated its intention to keep the free version of the service running as a side project. The company is now listed as inactive.
