STS Defence is a UK-based engineering and technology firm specializing in mission-critical communications, electronics, and intelligent systems for the defence, marine, aerospace, and nuclear sectors. The company has a long history, with its origins tracing back to a subsidiary of yacht builder Camper & Nicholsons, which produced electrical components for the war effort in WWII. It was formally established as STS Defence in 2001 after Space Technology Systems acquired Basys Technology. The business has undergone several ownership changes, including the creation of Key Technologies in 2009. In January 2024, STS Defence was acquired by the Cicor Group, a Swiss-based manufacturer of high-reliability electronics, to expand Cicor's presence in the UK aerospace and defence market.
The company operates from its site in Gosport, Hampshire, employing over 150 people. It provides through-life services, from design and manufacturing to integration and sustainment of complex systems. STS Defence's offerings include configurable communications masts for Royal Navy warships, UHF satellite communications systems, and wiring looms for Typhoon fighter aircraft. The business serves a notable client base that includes BAE Systems, Thales, and the UK's Ministry of Defence. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, the company generated sales of £27.5 million. Following the acquisition, STS Defence continues to operate under its existing management team as part of Cicor UK, alongside Axis Electronics.
