In the aftermath of World War II, a new chapter for Thai commerce began. In 1945, amidst this period of reconstruction, Choti Lamsam, a prominent Thai-Chinese businessman, established a new financial institution. It was initially named the Thai Farmers Bank, a name that clearly signaled its mission: to serve the agricultural sector, the backbone of the Thai economy. The bank started modestly with an initial registered capital of five million Baht and a team of just 21 employees. Its first headquarters was in Bangkok. The focus was clear—provide financial services to farmers and small agricultural businesses, a segment often overlooked by larger, established banks. This grassroots approach allowed the bank to build deep relationships and a strong foundation within the local economy. After its founding, the bank experienced steady growth, expanding its services beyond just agriculture to support Thailand's broader industrial and commercial development. A pivotal moment in its journey came in 1976 when it was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. This initial public offering provided the capital needed for further expansion and solidified its position as a major player in the country's financial landscape. In 2003, the bank rebranded from Thai Farmers Bank to the more modern Kasikornbank, reflecting its evolution into a universal bank with a diverse range of services for all Thais.
