Hornetsecurity is a German cloud security provider specializing in solutions for Microsoft 365. The company was founded in 2007 in Hanover by Daniel Hofmann and Oliver Dehning. Hofmann, who became an independent businessman in 2004, has served as CEO since the company's inception and continues to lead it following its acquisition.

The business operates on a subscription-based model, offering a comprehensive portfolio of services through a global network of over 12,000 Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and channel partners. This network serves more than 125,000 customers in over 120 countries. In May 2025, cybersecurity giant Proofpoint announced its acquisition of Hornetsecurity for a sum reported to be over $1 billion, a move intended to bolster Proofpoint's offerings for the small and mid-sized business (SMB) market and expand its European presence. Hornetsecurity brings over $160 million in annual recurring revenue to the deal.

The company's flagship product is 365 Total Protection, a suite of services for Microsoft 365 that includes AI-powered email security, advanced threat protection, backup and recovery, compliance, data loss prevention, and security awareness training. This suite addresses risks such as spam, malware, phishing, and ransomware. Other services include a VM Backup solution for Hyper-V and VMware, email archiving, encryption, and permission management for Teams and SharePoint. The company has grown through strategic acquisitions, including Vade Secure and Altospam, to enhance its product portfolio.
