In 2018, the story of Hilbert Group began not in a boardroom, but from the collaboration of two PhDs in Theoretical Physics, Dr. Magnus Holm and Dr. Niclas Sandström. They founded the company to build upon an algorithmic trading strategy they had developed, applying quantitative analysis to the nascent and volatile world of digital assets. Their business was clear: use sophisticated, data-driven models to manage investments in the crypto markets. Hilbert Group established itself as a tech-driven investment firm, focusing primarily on asset management through its algorithmic funds. The company is publicly listed on the Nasdaq First North in Sweden, which adds a layer of regulatory oversight and transparency to its operations in the crypto space. This move signaled an intent to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the emerging digital asset class. A significant chapter in their journey unfolded in late 2024 and early 2025, with the acquisition of digital asset manager Liberty Road Capital. This was a strategic, equity-only deal that significantly increased Hilbert's assets under management by approximately $110 million and added expertise in AI-trading and crypto derivatives. The acquisition was a clear move to scale up and solidify its position in the market. Following the acquisition, co-founder Niclas Sandström transitioned from his role as CEO in January 2025, passing the leadership to Barnali Biswal, a former Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, to guide the company's next phase of growth. With a strengthened team and expanded capabilities, Hilbert continues to evolve, launching new AI-driven funds and a platform for tokenized assets, aiming to be a key player in the institutional digital asset landscape.
