Dada S.p.A. is a prominent European player in professional digital services, specializing in establishing and maintaining the online presence of its clients. The company's core business revolves around domain registration, hosting, servers, website creation, e-commerce solutions, and brand protection. It primarily serves small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as individual consumers across Europe.
The company was founded in Florence in 1995 by Paolo Barberis and a group of fellow university students. Barberis, who studied architecture and specialized in interface design, established the company with the vision of making the internet a more accessible place for presence and aggregation. Starting with dial-up connectivity, Dada expanded its offerings over the years. A significant milestone was the company's IPO on the Milan Stock Exchange in 2000. Barberis was also instrumental in founding the Italian chapters of the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau) and ISOC (Internet Society). He led the company's international expansion before leaving in 2011 to found the startup accelerator Nana Bianca.
Dada's business model is centered on providing a comprehensive suite of digital tools that enable businesses to manage their online identity. Its services are delivered through several well-established brands across different European markets: Register.it in Italy, Namesco in the UK, Register365 in Ireland, Nominalia in Spain, and the Amen Group, which covers France, Portugal, and the Netherlands. This multi-brand strategy allows Dada to cater to a diverse customer base of approximately 650,000 businesses and consumers.
In November 2017, the private equity firm HgCapital, through its entity Dali Italy Bidco S.p.A., acquired a controlling stake in Dada from Orascom TMT Investments. This was followed by a mandatory tender offer which resulted in Dada's delisting from the Italian Stock Exchange on March 5, 2018, and Dali Italy Bidco becoming the sole shareholder. Subsequently, in May 2019, a merger was executed, incorporating Register.it S.p.A. and Dali Italy Bidco S.p.A. into Dada S.p.A. Following the merger, the consolidated entity changed its name to Register S.p.A., unifying its operations and liabilities under the new corporate identity.
