BXD Inc., now known as Bandai Namco Nexus Inc., was established on August 3, 2017, as a joint venture between Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and Drecom Co., Ltd. The company was founded to develop and operate a platform for online games utilizing HTML5 technology. The initial leadership included Koji Tezuka from Bandai Namco as Representative Director and President.
The venture combined Bandai Namco's strength in game production and intellectual property (IP) with Drecom's expertise in game development, operations, and HTML5 technology. In its early stages, BXD announced it would release titles based on popular IPs like "Dragon Ball Z," "The Idolmaster," and "Family Stadium". The company's business model was designed to generate revenue not only through in-game purchases but also by creating touchpoints outside of the game, such as linking game rewards to physical merchandise, a strategy facilitated by the flexibility of browser-based HTML5 games.
A significant milestone was the launch of the "enza" browser game platform in the spring of 2018. One of its major titles on the platform is "The Idolmaster Shiny Colors". In March 2020, BXD became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Entertainment. Reflecting a broader mission to connect various services and products around Bandai Namco's IPs, the company was rebranded to Bandai Namco Nexus Inc. on March 1, 2021. The new name "Nexus" signifies the company's goal to be a bridge between IP creators and their fans.
