In 1983, a new entity, Alliance Healthcare Services, was established with a focus on providing outsourced healthcare solutions. The company built its business by offering turnkey radiology and oncology services to hospitals and physician groups. This strategy involved partnering with healthcare providers to manage these specialized service lines, allowing hospitals to offer advanced imaging and cancer treatment without bearing the full operational and equipment costs themselves. For decades, Alliance honed this partnership model, growing its network and expertise across the United States. A significant chapter in the company's journey began in 2016 when it was acquired by the Tahoe Investment Group. This set the stage for the next major event. In 2021, outpatient imaging operator Akumin announced its acquisition of Alliance for $820 million. The transaction, which closed in September 2021, was aimed at creating one of the most comprehensive outpatient radiology and oncology service providers in the country, combining Akumin's freestanding centers with Alliance's extensive hospital partnerships.
