In 1990, as the iron curtain was lifting across Eastern Europe, a new company was born in Poland. This company, ABC Data, was founded to meet the rising demand for computer hardware and software in a region that was just opening up. The business was straightforward: get IT products like computers, components, and accessories into the hands of new businesses and consumers. For years, ABC Data grew steadily, becoming a key player in IT distribution not just in Poland, but across Central and Eastern Europe. The company's journey reached a major milestone when it went public on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, trading under the ticker ABCP. This move provided the capital and profile needed for its next phase of growth. In 2016, executing on a larger strategy, ABC Data acquired S4E S.A., a specialized IT solutions provider, to significantly increase its revenue from value-added products and services. The playbook was working, and the company was establishing itself as a dominant force in the region's IT distribution market. However, the chapter for an independent ABC Data came to a close when it was acquired by ALSO Holding, a larger European distribution player. Following the acquisition, the remaining entity changed its name to Vicis New Investments S.A. in July 2019, marking the end of an era for one of Poland's foundational technology companies.
