Two Men and a Dog is an independent game development studio from Helsinki, Finland, established in 2013. The founders, Matti Kallonen and Aleksi Räisänen, brought experience from notable Finnish companies; Kallonen was a developer at the digital agency White Sheep, and Räisänen was an artist at Rovio, the creator of Angry Birds. Their shared background at White Sheep and inspiration from classic 2D adventure games, cartoons like Futurama, and quirky storytelling form the foundation of their game development philosophy.
The studio's flagship title is "Zombie Catchers," a casual action-adventure mobile game launched in 2014. In this game, players control two intergalactic businessmen, A.J. and Bud, who have set up a business on a zombie-infested Earth. The core business model involves hunting zombies and processing them into juices, candies, and snacks to sell to customers through a drive-through cafe. This creates a two-part gameplay loop: an action phase of capturing various types of zombies using harpoons, traps, and jetpacks, and a business simulation phase of managing an underground lab, developing new recipes, and upgrading production lines. The game is free-to-play and generates revenue through in-app purchases, allowing players to buy items, upgrades, and a premium currency called Plutonium.
After its initial soft launch, "Zombie Catchers" gained significant traction, amassing over 55 million players by 2018. In November 2018, the game was acquired by DECA Games, a company specializing in live operations and reinvigorating existing games. This acquisition allowed the original founders at Two Men and a Dog to shift their focus to developing new titles, while ensuring "Zombie Catchers" would continue to receive updates and new content for its established fanbase. Following the acquisition, Two Men and a Dog remains an operating subsidiary of DECA Games and has since released another title, "Walk Master".
