Zen Modular is a French startup that provides prefabricated, plug-and-play room modules for managed residences, healthcare facilities, and the hotel industry. The company's hybrid modular construction approach combines factory-built modules with traditional on-site construction for non-repetitive building elements like common areas and facades. This method aims to deliver projects twice as fast, reduce the carbon footprint by up to 40%, and provide cost certainty for investors.
The company was founded in 2022 by Pascal Chazal, who also serves as CEO. In November 2024, Zen Modular announced it had raised €1 million from historical investors Unicraft and Kanopee, along with new strategic partners. Concurrently, the firm established a major partnership with four leaders in modular construction—AlphaM.3D, Habitat 3D, ModuleM, and Ossabois—to leverage their six factories across France and increase production capacity. This network provides a production capability of 5,000 modules per year, with an ambition to deploy 10,000 modules annually by 2027.
Zen Modular's business model centers on its digital platform where clients like architects and property developers can select and customize standard modules, estimate project costs, and track progress. One of its key products is the "J-Room," a module specifically designed for student residences. By focusing on user-centric design and industrial efficiency through methodologies like DfMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) and BIM, the company seeks to address housing shortages with high-quality, low-carbon lodging solutions.
