Wuxi Metro Group Co., Ltd. is the state-owned enterprise responsible for the construction and operation of the urban rapid transit system in the city of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China. Established in 2008 as Wuxi City Rail Transit Development Co., Ltd., it was restructured into a group company in 2012. The company's primary business involves the planning, construction, and operation of the metro network, alongside integrated station and urban development and resource management.
The Wuxi Metro system commenced operations on July 1, 2014, with the opening of Line 1, making Wuxi the third city in Jiangsu Province with a rail transit system. This was followed by the launch of Line 2 on December 28, 2014, a notable achievement as it made Wuxi the first city in China to open two metro lines within a single year of its first-round construction. As of early 2024, the network has expanded to five operational lines (Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, and S1), covering a total length of approximately 145 kilometers with 97 stations. The system serves major districts including Liangxi, Binhu, Xishan, Xinwu, and Huishan, as well as the county-level city of Jiangyin via the intercity Line S1. The daily ridership reached a record of 1.41 million passengers on February 16, 2024.
The business model centers on public transportation fees and diversified operations. Ticket fares are distance-based, starting from CNY 2. Beyond passenger transport, the company engages in transit-oriented development (TOD), creating commercial and residential projects such as the Sanyang Plaza TOD, known as Wuxi's "City Heart". Its business portfolio also extends to advertising, property management, and technology services related to the metro industry. Wuxi Metro Group has received numerous accolades for its projects, including the National Quality Engineering Gold Award for Line 1.
