Wrappup was a Dubai-based startup that developed a mobile application using artificial intelligence to automatically summarize meetings. Founded in 2015 by Rami Salman, Ayush Chordia, and Rishav Jalan, the company developed a working prototype in just 24 hours to win the AngelHack Dubai event in 2015. Salman, who previously worked at Bain & Company, conceived the app based on best practices for meeting productivity. Chordia developed the multi-platform cloud-based app, while Jalan built the Android application.
The app allowed users to record meetings and would analyze the audio to identify and organize important moments. It used speech recognition, natural language processing, and machine learning to provide transcriptions and predictive highlights. Users could also manually highlight key points during a conversation using voice commands or a button. The goal was to improve meeting effectiveness by ensuring outcomes and action items were tracked.
In 2016, Wrappup secured $800,000 in a seed funding round from investors including BECO Capital and Arzan VC. In April 2018, the company was acquired by Voicera, a California-based AI company with a similar focus on meeting productivity. The Wrappup team joined Voicera to work on platform growth and AI development, and the Wrappup app was rebranded under the Voicera name. Subsequently, Voicera was acquired by Cisco in 2019 to integrate its AI transcription technology into the Cisco Webex portfolio.
