Founded in Paris in 2015 by Mehdi Sakaly and Francois Hermand, World Gaming Federation (WGF) began as a social network platform designed for gamers. The company's vision was to create a centralized hub that would aggregate and optimize the video game ecosystem, connecting players with personalized content while offering game publishers and advertisers access to valuable data for targeted marketing. Mehdi Sakaly, serving as CEO, brought relevant experience from his time as a Cloud Gaming Marketing Manager at Orange, a background that directly informed the strategic direction of WGF.
WGF operated as an esports marketplace, providing services to help brands, companies, and institutions navigate and capitalize on the growing esports audience. The firm developed a suite of solutions including digital platforms, marketing services, organization of video game events, and consulting. For gamers, the platform served as a community hub to find events, watch videos, and connect with other players. For its business clients, WGF provided the tools to organize events and effectively reach the gaming community. The company's business model appeared to rely on fees from advertisers and game publishers who paid to access gamer data and tailor their marketing efforts.
Throughout its operation, World Gaming Federation secured a total of $16,700 in funding over three rounds, with notable participation from Orange Fab France and grants from European entities. One of its funding rounds included a grant of $55,400 on June 30, 2016. Despite its efforts to build a comprehensive platform for the gaming community and its commercial partners, the company is now listed as out of business and deadpooled.
