Woon Duurzaam B.V. positioned itself in the Dutch market as a comprehensive service provider for homeowners seeking to transition away from natural gas. Founded in 2018 by Rense van Dijk, the Amsterdam-based company aimed to simplify the process of making homes sustainable. The business model was structured as a one-stop-shop, offering services from initial energy advice to the complete installation of sustainable technologies. The company's core mission was to enable all households to achieve sustainability by 2040 without frustration.
The firm provided an integrated platform for home renovation projects focused on energy independence. Its portfolio of solutions included the installation of solar panels, all-electric heat pumps (with particular expertise in the Vaillant brand), PVT panels, charging stations for electric vehicles, and green roofs. The target clientele was primarily residential homeowners, mainly in the Randstad and North Holland regions, looking for a single point of contact for their sustainability projects. Woon Duurzaam utilized a combination of in-house installers and partner companies to carry out the technical work.
The company successfully raised capital through several funding rounds, attracting investments from entities such as Rabobank, DOEN Participaties, EIT InnoEnergy, and the Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland, culminating in a €2.2 million seed round in July 2022. However, after significant investments in growth and automation, the company faced a sharp 70% decline in new orders during the first quarter of 2023. This downturn, which depleted financial buffers, led the company to declare bankruptcy in December 2023. Following this, in early 2024, Utrecht-based competitor Groenpand acquired Woon Duurzaam's activities. The acquisition included ongoing projects, maintenance contracts, tools, and software, and provided an opportunity for former employees to join Groenpand, which has since established a new branch, Groenpand Amsterdam, to continue serving Woon Duurzaam's client base.
