Win-Win Homesharing was a social venture that created alternative housing arrangements by pairing seniors who have spare rooms with students in need of affordable accommodation. In this mutually beneficial model, students secured safe housing at a below-market rate in exchange for providing companionship and help with household tasks, while seniors could earn a new income and alleviate potential isolation.
The initiative was founded by Catherine Kelly, Mattias Lightstone, and Brendan W. F. Lucas, among others. The venture was a participant in the Halcyon Residential Fellowship, which supports early-stage social entrepreneurs. The core of the business was to address two significant societal issues simultaneously: the student housing crisis and senior isolation. The service involved vetting and matching compatible housemates, with students providing companionship or taking care of chores like cooking or taking out the trash.
Faced with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team pivoted to launch an additional service called Good Morning, a system designed to facilitate daily calls to seniors. According to Halcyon, Win-Win Homesharing is no longer an active company.
