WexEnergy, a woman-owned company founded in 2014, provides a cost-effective solution for improving the energy efficiency of existing windows in commercial and multifamily buildings. The company's business-to-business model targets building owners and property managers, offering them a way to reduce energy costs, increase net operating income, and enhance property values. Revenue is generated through direct sales and via a growing network of channel partners, including energy service companies (ESCOs), contractors, and distributors who can add WexEnergy's product to their offerings.
The company's creation stems from a personal need experienced by co-founder Dr. Ron Wexler. A scientist with training from MIT, Berkeley, and Caltech, Wexler was inspired to invent a solution for the drafty and inefficient windows in his own office. He teamed up with Rachel Rosen, who brought nearly three decades of experience as a property manager, building owner, and developer to her role as co-founder and CEO. This combination of scientific expertise and deep real estate industry knowledge forms the foundation of the company. Rosen's background allows her to understand the specific financial and operational pressures faced by their clients.
WexEnergy's flagship product is the WindowSkin™, a custom-fitted, transparent window insulation panel that snaps onto the interior of an existing window's glass. The technology works by creating a sealed pocket of air, which acts as an insulator to reduce thermal transfer. This process effectively upgrades single-pane windows to double-pane performance and double-pane windows to triple-pane performance at approximately 15% of the cost of full window replacement. The panels are lightweight, require no special tools for installation, and are designed to be nearly invisible, allowing the window to operate normally. The product is manufactured in New York State using Greenguard Certified materials, ensuring no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released.
