Initially a Chinese financial information service company, the firm has evolved into a global FinTech group. The original entity, Beijing Zhangzhong Financial Information Service Co., Ltd., was founded on July 27, 2015, by Zhang Jinghua, who served as CEO. The company, also known as Zhangzhong Group, initially focused on peer-to-peer lending and consumer micro-credit in China with products like "Shandian Jiekuan" (Lightning Loan).
The founder, Zhang Jinghua, has a background in technology, having worked on mobile operating systems at Motorola and 3G mobile services at Samsung. This experience in mobile technology was foundational to his later ventures. Prior to Zhangzhong, he co-founded the mobile payment company QiandaiBao, which was an early entrant into China's mobile payment sector and was later acquired by Meituan-Dianping. The idea for Zhangzhong originated from an internal project at QiandaiBao called "Qiandai Jiujie," created to meet user demand for small, short-term loans.
In response to shifting regulations in China's online lending market, the company pivoted its strategy significantly around 2019. It discontinued its P2P operations and expanded its focus to international markets under the name Weshare. The rebranded entity, headquartered in Singapore, offers FinTech services globally, with a strong presence in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America, including countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Nigeria, and Mexico. The business model transitioned from direct lending to providing a comprehensive suite of B2B services for the financial industry. These services are built on big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing to offer intelligent risk control, digital identity verification, anti-fraud models, and other automated solutions for banks and licensed financial institutions.
