In the world of Canadian gold mining, names can tell you a lot. Wesdome Gold Mines, established in 1976, was born from a joint venture between two entities: Western Quebec Mines Inc. and Dome Mines Limited. The playbook was straightforward: explore and develop a property in the rich mining district of Val d'Or, Quebec. For years, this was the company's focus, methodically building its presence. A pivotal moment came in 1999 when Wesdome Gold Mines Inc. became a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange, opening a new chapter of growth and access to capital. This was followed by a series of strategic consolidations. In 2003, Western Quebec Mines acquired the nearby Kiena Complex and folded it into Wesdome, creating a significant land package. A few years later, in 2006, a merger with River Gold Mines Ltd. brought the Eagle River Complex in Ontario into the portfolio. Like many in the resource sector, the company faced challenges, including suspending operations at the Kiena mine in 2013 when it was deemed not economically feasible. However, a new gold discovery at its Eagle River Mine in 2017 marked a turning point. This operational success, combined with a disciplined approach, allowed Wesdome to restart operations at the Kiena Complex in 2021. The journey continues with recent strategic moves, including the 2025 acquisition of Angus Gold, further expanding its exploration ground and signaling a clear focus on long-term growth.
