Wensli Group, founded in 1975 from the former Hangzhou Jianqiao Silk Factory, has evolved into a modern enterprise centered on silk cultural creativity, complemented by biotechnology, asset management, and finance. The company was founded by Shen Aiqin, a key figure in China's silk industry, who transformed a small workshop into a large-scale enterprise. The leadership was later passed to the second generation, with Tu Hongyan as Wensli Group Chairman and Li Jianhua as Chairman of the publicly listed subsidiary, Hangzhou Wensli Silk Culture Co., Ltd. This subsidiary was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's Growth Enterprise Market (stock code: 301066) on September 22, 2021.
Wensli integrates traditional silk craftsmanship with cultural innovation and advanced technology, expanding from fabrics and garments into three main categories: silk cultural gifts, silk home textiles, and silk artworks. The company's business model transitioned from a traditional production-oriented manufacturer to an asset-light model focusing on R&D, design, and branding. Wensli operates a direct factory model with a significant stock of greige fabric, enabling quick responses and no minimum order quantity for certain services. The company serves a global clientele and has provided customized silk products for numerous international events, including the Beijing Olympics, Shanghai World Expo, G20 Hangzhou Summit, and the Hangzhou Asian Games.
A key technological asset is its industry-leading double-sided digital printing process, which allows for identical patterns on both sides of thin silk fabric. The firm also possesses a state-certified enterprise technology center, a postdoctoral research station, and has developed proprietary green printing and dyeing technologies. As part of its international strategy, Wensli acquired Marc Rozier, a 120-year-old French silk scarf factory, in 2013 and later hired a former Hermes executive to lead its global market strategy. The company has also established strategic cooperation with luxury brands like LVMH for silk printing and fabric design.
