WaterHub is an Indonesian company tackling the country's water access and plastic pollution crisis by providing a network of decentralized water filtration and dispenser systems. Founded in 2019 by Lyonda Huwaidi and Abdul Kader, the startup officially launched in 2024. Huwaidi, who pursued aerospace engineering from the age of 15, was motivated by Indonesia's environmental challenges, particularly plastic waste and poor water quality, to decline a master's scholarship and establish WaterHub.
The company deploys IoT-enabled water refill stations that use advanced reverse osmosis technology to transform various water sources—including municipal, rain, ground, and even seawater—into safe drinking water. This model provides an alternative to bottled water, addressing issues of affordability, logistics, and environmental impact. WaterHub's systems, which include "Communal" dispensers and "Heavy Duty" units, are installed in public spaces, schools, and for commercial clients in sectors like fitness, F&B, and hospitality. The technology features IoT monitoring to ensure water quality and allows for app-based payments.
WaterHub operates on a B2B and B2C model, offering pay-per-use and subscription plans. For consumers, the model is a flexible quota-based system, while businesses are served through a monthly invoicing system. In August 2025, the company secured an undisclosed amount in seed funding led by Archipelago VC with participation from The Radical Fund to increase production, expand its team, and for further R&D. The company aims to have 2,000 units deployed by 2029, projecting the prevention of over 16,500 tonnes of plastic waste and saving over 300,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
