WatchKeeper International, founded in 2018 by Hugh Farquhar and Daniel Whatmuff, is a London-based developer of a critical event management platform. The company was acquired by Dataminr in July 2021. Founder and CEO Hugh Farquhar brought a decade of experience in corporate security and crisis management from Citigroup to the firm.
The company provides a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform designed to give organizations and government agencies situational awareness through a single interface. The platform uses geospatial technology to map a client's assets, employees, and systems, integrating this internal data with external, real-time risk data feeds. This allows security and supply chain managers to monitor and visualize threats, such as natural disasters and violent incidents, in relation to their critical operations. The system features a real-time mapping display, a consolidated risk newsfeed, case management tools for response coordination, and an automated alert manager based on proximity or severity. It processes millions of data points monthly to identify relevant security incidents.
The business model is subscription-based, targeting enterprise-level clients with annual contracts. WatchKeeper serves a range of clients, from small corporate security teams to large Global Security Operations Centers (GSOC), threat intelligence analysts, and Chief Security Officers. The platform is designed to be a cost-effective solution for various security budgets. Before its acquisition, the company had raised $1.41 million in a seed round and was an official supplier to the UK Government on the G-Cloud 12 Digital Marketplace. The acquisition by Dataminr aimed to integrate WatchKeeper's geovisualization capabilities into the Dataminr Pulse platform, enhancing real-time event contextualization for corporate clients.
