Wabisabi Games
Providing high quality japanese products and services to customers around the world.
Based in Mexico City, Wabisabi Games is a video game development studio with a global team. The company was co-founded by CEO Anwar Noriega, whose passion for anime and Japanese games from a young age heavily influenced the studio's creative direction. Noriega and the founding team possess a strong background in the Latin American video game industry, as well as in product design and development, including early work with mobile Augmented Reality (AR).
Wabisabi Games operates as a creative studio that builds immersive experiences using AR, Virtual Reality (VR), and game development technologies. The company's services extend to creating experiences for brands, educational technologies, training simulations, and visual effects. Their business model involves both developing original intellectual property and providing development services for corporate clients. The studio gained significant support as the first company to receive funding from Riot Games' Underrepresented Founders Program, which was established in 2020 to aid creators from underrepresented communities with funding and mentorship.
The studio's debut title is "RKGK / Rakugaki," a single-player 3D platformer for PC, published in partnership with Gearbox Publishing. Launched in May 2024, the game is set in the neo-brutalist, dystopian Cap City. Players control Valah, a member of a rebel graffiti group, fighting against the oppressive B Corp, which is draining the city of its color and life. The gameplay emphasizes speed and style, allowing players to chain together moves like jumps, dashes, and grinds. A key feature is the "Defacer Mode," which animates the surroundings as Valah uses her spray-painting skills to restore vibrancy to the city and combat B Corp's minions. The game's aesthetic is heavily inspired by anime and graffiti culture, reflecting the founders' childhood passions.
