In 1986, long before the internet as we know it reshaped the world, three innovators—engineers Philippe Roditi and Francis Cobbi, along with computer scientist Joseph Toledano—saw an opportunity in digital communication. They founded VTX Services SA in Lausanne, Switzerland, with the goal of creating a Videotex service, an enhanced version of the French Minitel. This move established them as pioneers in the Swiss digital landscape. As technology evolved, so did VTX. When the World Wide Web emerged in 1995, the company quickly pivoted, launching a range of internet services. They became one of the first providers in Switzerland to offer internet access at a local call rate, a decision that rapidly made them a leading operator in the country. The deregulation of the Swiss telecom market in 1997 opened another door, allowing VTX to enter the telephony market. The company expanded by acquiring other firms, strengthening its national presence, and bundling its services into a holding company, VTX Telecom SA, in 1999. A pivotal moment in VTX's journey occurred in January 2021, when the company was acquired by CELESTE, a French B2B telecom operator. This acquisition was part of CELESTE's strategy to expand its footprint across Europe, with VTX becoming its first international entity. The deal provided VTX with new growth opportunities and aimed to solidify its position as a go-to provider for businesses in Switzerland. Today, VTX operates as a subsidiary of CELESTE, continuing to offer a comprehensive suite of services, including fiber optics, cloud solutions, and mobile telephony for the Swiss market.
