Vriti Infocom Private Limited, founded in 2006 by IIT alumni including Swapnil Shrivastav, operated an online education marketplace in India. The company developed a cloud-based, SAAS platform designed to connect educational content providers with students, creating a two-sided market.
The core of Vriti's offering was its patent-pending Accelerate™ recommendation engine. This technology provided students with smart assessments for tests, performance analytics, and a personalized learning experience by tracking their performance and learning patterns. The platform aggregated content from various authors and publishers, enabling students to find and purchase courses tailored to their needs for competitive exams in India.
Vriti's business model focused on partnerships with B2B clients such as schools, coaching institutes, publishers, and universities. These partners were charged on a per-student basis to use Vriti's infrastructure, which included a testing platform and sales support, allowing smaller educational players to offer large-scale mock exams and assessments. This model also aimed to create recurring revenue for publishers, as new student logins would be required for passed-on materials.
The company secured significant venture capital, raising $2.5 million from Intel Capital in 2008, followed by a $5 million Series B round in 2010 co-led by JAFCO Asia and Intel Capital. This funding was intended for sales expansion and continued technology investment. By 2011, Vriti had reported substantial traction with numerous partner deployments and a large registered user base. However, the company later faced challenges, including the loss of key clients to competitors, and ultimately ceased its operations around June 2014. Corporate filings indicate the company's status is now "Strike Off".
