Founded in 1998, VirtualEdge Corporation established itself as a provider of recruiting and talent lifecycle management software for human resources departments. The company operated on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, offering on-demand enterprise talent management solutions.

The core of its offering was a software platform named E*TRACK. This product provided a comprehensive suite for managing the entire recruitment process, which the company termed the "talent lifecycle". Its capabilities included matching candidate skills with open positions, tracking all candidate interactions with the organization, and building talent pools for future job openings. The platform was designed to handle both professional and high-volume recruiting and was built on a single code base. Key features also encompassed easy integrations with pre-employment screening tools and payroll/HR systems. In March 2000, the company secured early-stage venture capital funding from investors including Edison Partners, Carmel Associates (Bethesda), and Star Canyon. This investment supported its growth as a privately-held, VC-backed firm. On October 18, 2006, VirtualEdge was acquired by Automatic Data Processing (ADP), a major provider of business outsourcing solutions. This acquisition was part of ADP's strategy to expand its on-demand employee services, following its purchase of Employease. At the time of the acquisition, VirtualEdge had approximately 30 employees and was based in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
