In 1973, in the province of Treviso, Italy, Graziano Virago and Giorgio Rossetto founded Virosac. They anticipated how home appliances would change consumer habits around waste management and food preservation. The company became a leader in Italy for household bags, specializing in items like waste bags and products for food storage. Virosac focused on innovation from early on. In 1991, it was the first Italian company in its sector to be licensed for using biopolymers. This commitment to sustainability continued, with a focus on using regenerated and bio-sourced materials. The company developed patented features like special ties to close waste bags (LaccioSac) and anti-drip seals to prevent leaks. A significant chapter in the company's journey began in 2019 when Orienta Capital Partners, along with other investors, acquired Virosac, while the founders remained as minority shareholders. This new ownership aimed to boost growth and market position. Under this structure, Virosac acquired Rapid, a producer of aluminum rolls and plastic wrap, in 2021, significantly expanding its product range and creating a major Italian group in the sector. Most recently, in late 2024, the French group SPHERE acquired Romagnasac, the holding company that controls Virosac and Rapid. This acquisition positions Virosac within a larger European leader in household packaging, poised for further expansion.
