Vigloo
Streaming platform offering immersive short-form dramas across genres, designed for mobile-first audiences seeking quick, engaging entertainment.
Vigloo, a mobile entertainment platform specializing in short-form dramas, was launched in July 2024 by the South Korean content company SpoonLabs. Helmed by CEO Neil Hyuk-jae Choi, Vigloo is SpoonLabs' strategic entry into the burgeoning global market for bite-sized, episodic video content. The platform's creation leverages Spoon Radio's existing experience in the audio platform market to tap into the rapidly expanding short-form video sector.
Vigloo operates on an over-the-top (OTT) model, delivering content directly to consumers via its mobile application. Its primary target audience consists of busy professionals, working mothers, and Gen X and older millennial viewers, particularly women aged 35 and above, who prefer entertainment that fits into short breaks in their day. The platform generates revenue through a freemium model; the initial episodes of a series are free, with subsequent viewing requiring payment. Users can make in-app purchases for coins to unlock episodes or opt for weekly and monthly subscription memberships.
The service offers a vast library of serialized dramas with episodes lasting just one to two minutes, a format designed for vertical-scrolling on mobile devices, similar to TikTok or Reels. Each series typically contains 50 to 100 episodes. Vigloo launched with 50 original K-drama titles and has aggressive plans for content expansion, including the production of over 100 English-language originals. The content library spans multiple genres, with romance and thriller being particularly popular in the U.S. market. To cater to a global audience, content is available in eight languages, including English, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish.
A significant milestone for the company was its expansion into the U.S. market, which has become its largest source of revenue. This expansion is fueled by a substantial $86 million backing from Krafton, the South Korean gaming giant. Since December 2024, Vigloo has seen its monthly active users in the U.S. increase fivefold, with American users now accounting for 50% of its revenue.
