Vetwork is an on-demand pet care marketplace operating in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), with a presence in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The company was established in late 2017 by a team of veterinarians: Fady Azzouny, Abdelrheem Hussein, and Zeinab ElGeziry. Their shared background in veterinary medicine provided the foundational expertise to address gaps in the pet care market, such as the lack of monitored, readily available, and accurately rated veterinary services. The founders' journey began with an introduction to the startup ecosystem through the MINT Incubator, a program by EG Bank in cooperation with Cairo Angels.
Vetwork functions as a one-stop platform connecting pet owners with a network of vetted service providers. The business model is centered on providing on-demand services, which can be booked through its mobile application. Clients, who are individual pet owners, can access a wide array of services including healthcare, vaccinations, grooming, deworming, dog walking, and boarding facilities. The company's revenue is generated by facilitating these connections and services through its platform. By 2022, the platform had grown to include over 400 service providers and had served more than 38,000 pets.
A significant milestone for the company was securing a six-figure seed funding round in November 2019 from investors including Cairo Angels and Misk 500 Startups. This capital was targeted for service expansion and aggressive regional growth. Subsequently, in June 2022, Vetwork raised an undisclosed bridge funding round from Alexandria Angel Network members, Saudi angel investors, and received financial support from Nestlé Purina, with whom it is also conducting a proof of concept. A key technological development for the firm is its AI-powered telehealth platform, Hakim. This system, built on the Sahara model, analyzes pet data and medical records to assist veterinarians with diagnostics and treatment planning, integrating with DUNIA, an Arabic veterinary AI library, to enhance the quality of care.
