Founded in 2003 by Paul Emond and Jonathon Moody, Versature emerged in Ottawa to address the communication challenges and high long-distance costs associated with traditional phone systems. Emond, who served as CEO, and Moody, the President and COO, guided the company's growth, which focused on providing cloud-based Voice over IP (VoIP) solutions. Moody, with a background in internet and hosted technologies since the late 90s, was driven to help organizations leverage transformative services like cloud communications.
The company operates on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, offering hosted Private Branch Exchange (PBX) services to Canadian businesses, particularly targeting small to medium-sized enterprises. Revenue is generated through tiered monthly subscriptions per user, with plans such as Business Lite, Business Select, and Business Premier, which vary in features and included minutes. In September 2018, Versature was acquired by Net2Phone, a global subsidiary of IDT Corporation, to accelerate its expansion across Canada with greater access to capital and technology. Following the acquisition, the company was rebranded to Net2Phone Canada in 2021, though it continues to build on Versature's foundation. Paul Emond left the company post-acquisition, while Jonathon Moody continued to lead the Canadian operations.
Versature, now Net2Phone Canada, provides a unified communications platform called SONAR, which integrates voice, messaging, and video conferencing. The core service is a hosted VoIP business phone system that includes features like auto-attendant, call routing, voicemail-to-email, and call analytics. Their offerings are designed to replace costly and difficult-to-maintain legacy phone systems. The platform also integrates with third-party SaaS tools like Salesforce, Slack, and Google Workspace. A key benefit is the inclusion of unlimited calling to over 40 countries in many of its plans, catering to businesses with a global clientele. The service is supported by a Canadian-based, bilingual customer support team.
