Veri

Veri was a mobile application designed for the private, automatic sharing of photos and videos during events like weddings. The company was founded by Lee Hoffman, Angela Kim, and Brian Tobal. It addressed the common problem of collecting pictures from guests after an event by creating a seamless, automated process.

The core of Veri's service was its autoshare technology. Once an event was set up in the app by the host, guests who joined could take photos and videos using their regular phone cameras. The application would then automatically upload these files to a shared album accessible by the host and other attendees. This functionality removed the need for manual uploads, dedicated camera apps, or the use of specific hashtags on social media, resulting in a significantly higher number of captured moments compared to traditional methods. The service was positioned as a complement to professional photography, capturing candid moments from guests' perspectives throughout all wedding-related activities, such as engagement parties and bridal showers.

In September 2017, Veri was acquired by XO Group, the parent company of the prominent wedding planning platform The Knot, for $3.5 million in cash. Following the acquisition, the app was integrated into The Knot's ecosystem and rebranded as "Veri by The Knot." A year later, in October 2018, the service was renamed "The Guest" and was made available for free to all couples, shifting from its previous $100 price point to become part of The Knot's complimentary suite of wedding planning tools.
