Verandah is a luxury fashion brand specializing in conscious and sustainable resort wear, ready-to-wear, and swimwear. Founded in 2011 by Anjali Patel Mehta, the company is headquartered in Mumbai, India. The brand's signature style features story-based, hand-illustrated prints, fine embroideries, and sustainable fabrics with Indian design roots. Verandah was the first Indian brand to receive the Butterfly Mark certification from Positive Luxury, an award recognizing high standards for social and environmental performance.
Anjali Patel Mehta, a former investment banker with firms like Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank, founded Verandah after a decade-long career in finance. With an MBA in Analytical Finance and Strategic Marketing and no formal fashion training, she was inspired to create the brand out of a personal need for chic, fuss-free, and unique travel separates. Her background in finance is complemented by her mother being a trained artist, influencing the brand's creative direction. The venture began after a spinal injury prompted a break from banking, leading her to create joyful and comfortable clothing, which she initially sold to friends.
Verandah operates on a direct-to-consumer model through its website and has a physical presence with a flagship store in Goa and an atelier in Mumbai for by-appointment shopping. The brand's business model is centered on sustainability, employing a zero-waste, circular design philosophy and a small-batch production model. It utilizes sustainable materials such as ECONYL® regenerated nylon for its Italian-made swimwear, and GOTS-certified organic cotton, Bemberg™ vegan silk, and other biodegradable, plant-based fabrics for its ready-to-wear lines. The company actively uses post-production waste to create accessories and other items. Verandah's products are sold through high-end department stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, specialty boutiques, and luxury hotels and resorts globally, including Four Seasons and Eden Rock. The company raised $1.1 million in a seed funding round in December 2021.
