Vaunt is an intellectual property (IP) development company focused on the sports and entertainment sectors, founded in 2014 by former NBA player Roger Mason Jr., who serves as CEO, and technology executive Omari Ware, who is the President. Mason's experience as a professional athlete and later as the deputy executive director of the NBA Players Association gave him insight into the opportunities for athletes to monetize their off-the-court rights, which became a foundational concept for Vaunt. The company was established to provide a platform for athletes and artists to develop and monetize their personal brands on a global scale.
Vaunt's business model centers on creating and producing alternative sports competitions and interactive content that merges entertainment with technology. This includes organizing live sporting events, such as a FIBA three-on-three basketball tournament and a beer-less pong league featuring celebrities. The firm generates revenue by developing these unique fan experiences, which often incorporate elements of sports betting, merchandise, collectibles, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Vaunt acts as the infrastructure provider, from ideation to execution, enabling talent to build scalable brands and connect with a new generation of fans.
In April 2022, the New York-based company secured $5 million in a Series A funding round. The round included investments from Elysian Park Ventures (the investment arm of the Los Angeles Dodgers' ownership group), InfiniteWorld, True Culture Fund, former NFL player Justin Tuck, and former NBA Players Association Executive Director Michele Roberts. This capital was intended to expand Vaunt's collaborations, projects, and overall business operations.
