VaultRMS, operating as Vault Exposure Tracker, provides a specialized, cloud-based software solution for first responders to meticulously document their exposure to toxic materials and carcinogens. The company was founded in 2013 by Chris Memmott, who was later joined in 2014 by fire service veteran Clive Savacool. Savacool, who served as one of the youngest chiefs in the history of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, brought firsthand experience with the health risks firefighters face, which profoundly shaped the development of the Exposure Tracker platform. The platform was created to address the critical need for accurate documentation, which is essential when firefighters file for job-related illness claims.
The firm primarily serves public safety agencies, particularly fire departments, and their personnel. The business model initially operated on a subscription basis, charging individual firefighters or their agencies a monthly fee. However, a significant milestone occurred in April 2018 when VaultRMS was acquired by Envisage Technologies, a provider of training and compliance software for public safety officials. Following the acquisition, the Exposure Tracker product was integrated into Envisage's FirstForward training network and made available at no cost to first responders. This shift aimed to remove budget constraints and dramatically increase adoption among the thousands of agencies that had previously expressed interest.
The core service, Exposure Tracker, is a secure, web-based platform accessible from any internet-connected device. It allows individual first responders to maintain a detailed, personal history of their exposures, vaccinations, and certifications. For command staff, the platform aggregates this data anonymously to provide valuable insights into the types of incidents their departments are responding to. This aggregated data aids in assessing training needs, optimizing resource allocation, and improving reporting to municipal officials. The system can integrate with traditional records systems, various sensors, and weather APIs to create a comprehensive exposure profile. The collected anonymized data is also intended to be shared with cancer researchers to support the broader fight against firefighter cancer.
