Vaulted Deep is a biomass carbon removal and storage (BiCRS) company that launched in late 2023 as a spin-off from Advantek Waste Management Services, an industrial waste management company with decades of experience. The company was co-founded by Julia Reichelstein (CEO) and Omar Abou-Sayed (Executive Chairman). Reichelstein brings expertise in carbon removal markets from her time as a venture capitalist at Piva Capital, complemented by her earlier career in international development and fintech in Kenya. Abou-Sayed founded Advantek, the company that developed the core slurry injection technology now commercialized by Vaulted Deep.

The firm addresses the dual challenges of overburdened waste systems and atmospheric carbon pollution by sequestering organic waste deep underground. Vaulted Deep's business model centers on providing waste management services to municipalities, industrial operators, and agricultural producers, coupled with the sale of high-quality, permanent carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits. Its clientele for carbon removal includes major corporations like Stripe, Alphabet, McKinsey, H&M, and JPMorgan Chase, facilitated through a significant offtake agreement with the buyer coalition Frontier. The company generates revenue from both waste disposal fees and the sale of these verified carbon credits.

The core of Vaulted Deep's service is a proprietary slurry injection technology, a mature process proven over decades in the oil and gas industry for waste disposal. The company takes sludgy organic wastes—such as biosolids, manure, food waste, and paper sludge—and converts them into a slurry with minimal processing. This carbon-rich slurry is then injected nearly a mile beneath the surface into porous geologic formations, sealed by an impermeable rock layer that ensures permanent storage for over 10,000 years. This process not only removes carbon but also provides environmental co-benefits by preventing the release of methane and other pollutants like PFAS from traditional waste disposal methods like landfills or incineration.

Since its launch, Vaulted Deep has demonstrated rapid scalability, leveraging existing, permitted well infrastructure from its parent company. The company operates facilities in Los Angeles, California, and Hutchinson, Kansas. Shortly after its founding, Vaulted secured an $8 million seed round and later a $32.3 million Series A round led by Prelude Ventures to fund the development of new injection sites, including the upcoming Monarch Fields facility. The company has already delivered thousands of tonnes of CDR and secured a landmark $58.3 million offtake agreement with Frontier to remove over 152,000 tonnes of CO2 by 2027.
