V3 Systems
Desktop cloud management solutions provider offering persistent, non-persistent and hybrid desktop architectures.
V3 Systems, established in 2010 and based in Salt Lake City, Utah, carved a niche in the desktop virtualization market before its acquisition. The company operated with a focus on developing and providing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) architecture, software, and hybrid Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) solutions.
The core of its product suite was the Desktop Cloud Orchestrator® (DCO), a proprietary virtualization management software. This system provided administrators with a centralized console for managing various virtual desktop deployments, whether local, cloud-hosted, or hybrid. Key features of the DCO software included the ability to automatically replicate persistent virtual desktops, which facilitated smooth transfers between appliances for maintenance or failover. Complementing the software were the V3 Appliances, which were purpose-built servers designed to be compact and efficient for deploying virtual desktop infrastructure.
V3 Systems served a diverse client base across several industries, including professional services, healthcare, education, and government sectors in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The business model centered on selling its integrated hardware and software solutions to these organizations, aiming to simplify the complexity and reduce the overhead associated with traditional VDI deployments.
A significant milestone in the company's history occurred in March 2014, when it was acquired by Sphere 3D Corporation, a virtualization technology solution provider. The acquisition included all of V3's assets, from its software and intellectual property to customer contracts, integrating V3's appliance-based approach into Sphere 3D's broader platform.
