UpToke
Portable vaporizer for cannabis and tobacco consumption.
UpToke developed a cigar-shaped, portable vaporizer for consuming cannabis and tobacco. Founded in 2013 by Jason Levin and based in Berkeley, California, the company aimed to create a device that offered a clean and portable smoking alternative. UpToke's flagship product, the Spyre, was designed to combine the immediacy of an e-cigarette with the capabilities of a full conduction/convection vaporizer. The device featured a CPU, temperature and touch sensors to monitor and adjust heat in real-time, activating upon inhalation to optimize flavor. It was capable of vaporizing both solid plant materials and liquid concentrates, reaching its target temperature within a single breath. Additional features included a built-in grinder and USB charging.
The company's target market was individuals seeking a healthier and more modern method of smoking. UpToke operated as a private label brand of vape accessories. The business secured a seed funding round of $1 million on May 2, 2013, with Gateway as an institutional investor. However, according to PitchBook data, the company went out of business on January 1, 2018.
