Nomah, formerly known as Uotel, operates in the Brazilian real estate sector, specializing in the management and rental of standardized, furnished apartments. The company was founded by Thomaz Guz and Fabio Bertini. Initially, the business model focused on sub-leasing small studio apartments, ranging from 20 to 35 square meters, for short-term stays, blending elements of hotel services with apartment living.
A significant milestone in the company's trajectory occurred in July 2020 when it was acquired by the real estate unicorn Loft for an undisclosed sum. This acquisition marked Loft's entry into the short-term rental market. Following the deal, founders Guz and Bertini remained with the company to continue leading its operations. In March 2021, Loft invested R$ 50 million into the platform, which was subsequently rebranded from Uotel to Nomah. This capital was earmarked for technology and expansion over the next three years. The business targets both short-term travelers and those seeking long-duration stays, offering flexible, bureaucracy-free rental experiences. Revenue is generated through the management and rental of these properties, which are all located in São Paulo.
The company's offerings provide an alternative to traditional hotels and platforms like Airbnb. All apartments are fully equipped and furnished, with services that can include a 24-hour concierge and a single bill for all utilities. The COVID-19 pandemic reportedly increased demand for flexible rentals, driven by the rise in remote work, which led to an increase in the average length of short-term stays. In August 2022, Nomah announced a merger with its Mexican counterpart, Casai, to create a new entity with a portfolio of over 3,000 units across Brazil and Mexico. However, by January 2023, the merged company ceased its operations in Brazil amidst financial difficulties.
