ULIS (ULIS Infrared), formerly a leading French developer of uncooled thermal imaging sensors, was a key player in the global infrared imaging industry prior to its merger. Specializing in microbolometer-based thermal sensors, ULIS catered to markets ranging from defense and security to industrial automation, smart building applications, and thermal wellness technologies. The company was known for its advanced manufacturing capabilities and innovation in producing high-resolution, compact, and low-power infrared sensors.

In 2019, ULIS merged with Sofradir, another prominent French infrared technology firm specializing in cooled and uncooled infrared detectors for military, space, and industrial uses. Both companies were subsidiaries of the French defense electronics group Safran. The merger was strategically orchestrated to consolidate France’s infrared expertise under a single unified brand and accelerate innovation across a wider range of IR technologies.

The combined entity was rebranded as Lynred, marking a new chapter in the evolution of European infrared sensing capabilities. Lynred now offers one of the broadest ranges of IR technologies in the world, from cooled to uncooled detectors, and serves a global customer base across defense, aerospace, automotive, industrial, and consumer sectors.

The merger enhanced operational synergies, pooled R&D efforts, and strengthened the competitiveness of European infrared technologies in international markets. Lynred continues to operate from its facilities in Veurey-Voroize, near Grenoble, France, maintaining the legacy and technical expertise of both founding companies.
