Ubiregi Inc. provides a cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) system that utilizes iPads, targeting the service industry, including restaurants, retail stores, and salons. The company operates on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, generating revenue through monthly subscriptions for its POS application and optional hardware.
The inspiration for Ubiregi came from founder Keita Shimotori's experience working at a bar during his time as a graduate student at Keio University. Frustrated with the inefficient and analog methods of sales management, he saw an opportunity with the impending launch of the first iPad. In September 2009, while still a student, Shimotori and two friends founded the company, initially named Homesearch Co., Ltd. Recognizing the potential for tablets in the B2B space, he pivoted the company's focus. Just a few months after the iPad's release in Japan, the company launched the "Ubiregi" iPad POS application in August 2010, becoming a pioneer in the Japanese market. The company officially changed its name to Ubiregi Inc. in February 2011.
Ubiregi's core product is a POS application that turns an iPad into a full-featured cash register, designed with the concept of "simplicity is best." The system manages sales, analyzes data in real-time, and handles customer information, all stored in the cloud. This allows business owners to check sales data from anywhere. The company serves a wide range of clients, from small independent shops to chains with over 100 locations. Beyond the main POS application, Ubiregi offers a suite of integrated services. These include "Ubiregi Handy," which turns iPhones and iPod Touches into handheld ordering terminals, and "Ubiregi QR Order & Pay," a system that allows customers to order and pay from their own smartphones. For retailers, "Ubiregi Inventory Management" provides an app-based solution for tracking stock and managing orders. The company also offers an enterprise plan for large-scale deployments that may require customization and a "Ubiregi for Salesforce" application for deeper CRM integration.
A significant milestone was the capital and business alliance with Salesforce Japan in July 2012, a first for a Japanese venture company. Over the years, Ubiregi has continually expanded its ecosystem by integrating with numerous external services, including mobile payment platforms like Square, accounting software, and customer loyalty programs.
