UBI is a digital information platform designed to connect people in Maputo, Mozambique, to their city. The service was developed by the startup VOID and initially launched in 2018 after three years of development funded by the company's own resources. The managing director of VOID is Alexandre Coelho.
The platform consists of an ecosystem of applications and interactive kiosks located on high-traffic avenues throughout Maputo. It provides users with information about city life, including a guide to local businesses like restaurants, shops, and cultural centers, as well as a cultural events agenda. For businesses, UBI offers tools to create online shops, list products, and run promotional campaigns, creating a marketplace that connects buyers and sellers. The platform also features information on urban mobility, such as transport routes. Through the UBI GO! feature, users can scan QR codes at participating venues to earn rewards.
After a period of being on standby due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a strategic repositioning, the company was seeking new investors to reactivate and improve the platform's sustainability as of early 2023.
